Walter Mirtl, 9pack, video-loop, 2012

In his videos, Walter Mirtl puts machine-like objects in the focus of attention. Most of them are computer generated. These objects are in constant, repetitive motion in space and / or to each other. The Image-compositions are accompanied by a repetitive sound. This supports the rhythm of the action and creates a penetrating, machine-like environment. These extremely short movies are packed with a maximum of picture and sound information. The situations in the pictures are often caused by the exchange or the blending of two contrasting scenes. Scenes that have nothing to do with each other in the real world. The surreal method of image selection, processing, assembly and combination (i.e. the abrupt breaks), as well as the overlap, the motion of objects and sounds, creates enigmatic, mysterious and even threatening situations. These machines provide nothing in the traditional sense. And yet these clips a tribute to their aesthetics, dynamics, strength and speed.

Movement in front of your web-cam changes the text-string inside the video.
This video-work has been created for the 21. European Customs Law Conference. It is arranged to be projected on a large video-screen. The center-point of the video is a text-string and it shows customs-terms from documents related to the 21. European Customs Law Conference. The text-string changes the indication, every time a camera detects movement at the location of the meeting. So, each participant of the conference will be an active part of the installation. The Images in the background of the movie are free interpretations of Customs Union and e-Government. They visualize the world of trade and customs.
